As CEO at International Campus Group with over 20 years’ global real estate investment experience, investing and managing billions across multiple asset classes, Gawain Smart leverages his experience to bring a disciplined and thoughtful investment and operating philosophy to International Campus (IC) based on rigorous analysis and thorough research.
Prior to joining IC Group, Gawain served as Managing Director, Head (General Counsel) at Oxford Properties where he spearheaded legal and real estate transaction and execution functions in the UK and across Europe and Asia Pacific. Sitting on Oxford’s Senior Management Team with shared responsibility for the company’s strategic planning and operations, Gawain oversaw Oxford’s investment and development platform in those markets with a particular focus on single asset and portfolio real estate acquisitions and disposals, finance and credit investments as well as tax, structuring and restructurings (work-outs).
Previously, Gawain was Equity Partner with Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP, a leading business law firm specializing in high-stakes and complex matters. He started his legal career as an Associate with Shearman & Sterling LLP.
Gawain also served as Chair, Audit Risk & Finance Committee on the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity Toronto.
Gawain received his MBA (Ivey Business School) and JD degrees from Western University. He completed the ICD Directors Education Program at the University of Toronto (Rotman School of Management).
